What Should I Do If My Filling Comes Out?

A dental filling can sometimes become loose or fall out because of normal wear, tooth decay, biting forces, or damage to the tooth.

Even if there is no pain, the tooth should be examined by a dentist.

What should you do?

  • Keep the area clean.
  • Brush gently around the tooth.
  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods.
  • Try not to chew on that side.
  • Do not try to fix the filling yourself, it can worsen the condition
  • Arrange a dental appointment.

Your dentist will check the tooth and filling. The tooth may need a new filling, repair, crown, root canal treatment or other treatment depending on the amount of damage or decay on the tooth

Leaving the tooth untreated can allow food and bacteria to enter the affected area and further damage the tooth making treatment extensive.
